Board and Advisors

Mining has contributed $500 billion directly to Australia's wealth over the past 20 years and is likely to increase in this decade. Australia's major export markets are in Asia, especially to the People's Republic of China, the Republic of Korea and Japan.

The board of MEC Resources has been selected to provide a balance of Australian and overseas Directors providing access to capital and relationships across key target markets.

Goh Hock - Chairman

Until recently, Mr Goh was President of Network and Infrastructure Solutions, a division of Schlumberger Limited, based in London with revenue in excess of US$1.5 billion. He had global responsibility of Schlumberger's outsourcing services, security, business continuity and networked related business units.

Prior to that, Hock was President of Schlumberger Asia based in Beijing, China where he managed their Asian operations consisting of a broad range of services including oil field services, outsourcing, financial software and smartcards. Hock was responsible for US$800 million in revenue and more than 2,000 employees spread across 17 countries.


In his 25 year career with Schlumberger, Hock held several other field and management responsibilities in the oil and gas industry spanning more than ten countries in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Hock started as an oil field service engineer in Indonesia in 1980 before moving to Australia where he worked on the rigs in Roma, Queensland, Bass Strait in Victoria and the Northwest Shelf, offshore Western Australia.

Mr Goh is also an operating partner with Baird Capital Partners, the U.S. based buyout fund of Baird Private Equity, providing change-of-control and growth capital to middle-market companies. Baird Private Equity has raised and managed $1.7 billion in capital. He also serves on the Board of Xaloy Holdings, a US based steel components manufacturer for the plastic industry. He received his B Eng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from Monash University, Australia. He also completed an Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD/ France in 2004.

Hock is also serving as Chairman of Advent Energy and Non-Executive Director of BioPharmica Ltd (ASX: BPH).

Mr David Breeze - Executive Director

David has extensive experience in transaction structuring, corporate advisory and funding for listed and unlisted companies and has held executive, consulting and/or board positions across a range of stockbroking companies in Australia including Daiwa Securities, Eyres Reed McIntosh and BNZ North's. David Breeze has provided capital raising, valuation and corporate advisory services for a wide ranging group of resources companies including Independent Experts reports for asset valuation under the provisions of the Australian Stock Exchange Rules and Corporations Law. The advisory function included advice on corporate structure, ASX listing rules and the structuring and running of IPO's. He has also published in the Australian Securities Industry Journal on resource valuation.

David has worked on the structuring, capital raising and public listing of over 80 companies involving in excess of $250M. These capital raisings covered a diverse range of areas including oil and gas, gold, biotechnology and manufacturing. David Breeze is Chairman of Grandbridge Ltd, a publicly listed investment and advisory company and BioPharmica Ltd, an ASX listed commercialisation business. He holds a Bachelor of Economics and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and is a Member of the Australian Institute of Management, a Senior Associate of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and a Fellow of the Institute of Company Directors of Australia.

Mr Seng Yap - Non-Executive Director

After graduating from Kyoto University, Seng Yap was employed by Schlumberger Limited, working in international Oil & Gas exploration projects across Asia, Australia and New Zealand. He worked as an International Staff Engineer at various Schlumberger onshore and offshore locations in Indonesia, Brunei, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. He was Engineer in charge of land operations in Western Australia, and worked in Brunei as Engineer-in-Charge. Seng was head of the joint venture between the NSW Investment Corporation and the venture capital operation of Daiwa Securities. He was Executive Director of Daiwa Securities Australia Limited and was instrumental in the establishment of the Australian stockbroking operations for the company.

Seng also worked as a senior advisor to leading venture capital groups and multi-nationals in Australia, Japan and China, advising on corporate, investment and development strategies. Mr Yap, in his former investment banker role, was the leader in a series of transactions worth in excess of AU$500 million. He has also been on the Board of several resort management companies. Seng is currently a Director on the Board of a Japanese Coca-Cola Bottler with an annual turnover of about one billion dollars. He is also a Director for ASX listed Grandbridge Ltd and a number of unlisted companies in Australia, Japan and China. Mr Yap was also an Associate of the Securities Institute of Australia and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. 

Mr C.T Lim - Non-Executive Director

Mr Lim is a founder and director of Encus International Pte Ltd, a contract design and manufacturing company. Mr Lim was also the Chief Executive of Xpress Holdings Ltd during the period from 2001 to August 2005 and its Group Managing Director in 2000. For 20 years Mr Lim was with the Singapore Economic Development Board and held various positions with responsibilities for promoting and developing venture capital, mergers and acquisitions, engineering industries, local enterprises, skills training, automation and overseas investments. This included a period as a Director for the Enterprise Development Division of the Singapore Economic Development Board.

Mr Lim is also involved with several listed and private companies in Singapore. He is an Independent and Non-Executive Director on the boards of FibreChem Technologies Ltd, Metal Component Engineering Ltd, Manufacturing Integration Technologies Ltd, all of which are listed on the Singapore Exchange. In addition, he sits on the Boards of GRN Singapore Pte Ltd and Atlas Vending Pte Ltd. In the academic area, Mr Lim is a member of the Board of Governors of Nanyang Polytechnic in Singapore. Mr Lim holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Leeds and a Diploma in Business Administration from the National University of Singapore. In addition, Mr Lim attended the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School.

Mr K.O Yap - Non-Executive Director

K.O Yap has over 15 years experience in investment banking. Prior to establishing Eton Advisory Services Ltd, Mr. Yap was Head of Corporate Finance at Daiwa Securities (H.K.) Ltd. and Executive Director at Alta Financial Group. His career took him from general audit, computer audit and corporate advisory with Ernst & Young in London to investment banking with Barclays de Zoete Wedd Asia Ltd. and then Daiwa Securities (H.K.) Ltd. His extensive experience covers all aspects of corporate finance, advisory, M&A and capital raisings throughout Asia. These include privatisation, listing and public offerings from the PRC (Northeast Electric, H-Share), Malaysia (Petronas Gas), Thailand (PTTEP); equity-linked issues from HK (Emperor International) and Thailand (Bangkok Land) and debt issues including a samurai bond for Wharf (H.K.).

Mr. Yap also has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions (and related restructurings) with transactional experience in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong and China. Mr. Yap a graduate from the London School of Economics, in 1984, is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Ms Deborah Ambrosini - Company Secretary

Deborah is a corporate accountant with over 10 years experience in accounting and business development spanning the biotechnology, mining, IT communications and financial services sectors.  She has extensive experience in financial and business planning, compliance and taxation.  Deborah is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and also holds the position of Company Secretary for other publicly listed entities Biopharmica Limited and Grandbridge Limited.

Mr Ding Guiming - Chairman of Advisory Panel

MEC has appointed Mr Ding Guiming, a former President of the world's largest oil producers (and former senior Chinese Government Ministerial official) as Chairman of its Advisory Panel. Mr Ding was the former Head of Exploration for the China National Petroleum Company (CNPC), where he directed the exploration activity of more than 20 oilfields all over China. CNPC recently announced USD 86 billion in revenue. In addition to being President of the Daqing Oilfield, one of the largest and most profitable enterprises in China, Mr Ding has had 34 years of extensive, successful oilfield experience.

Mr Ding last served as Commissioner of the China State Asset Administration Office, where he reported directly to the Prime Minister's office. He supervised the reform of BaoSteel, Wuhan Steel and ChangJiang Shipping, all of which were major Chinese state enterprises. He retired from this position in 2004 achieving the rank of Vice Minister. Prior to that, Mr Ding was Assistant President of CNPC in Beijing from 1997 to 1998 where he oversaw the exploration and production bureau of CNPC oilfields in China.

Before moving to CNPC, he was the President of Daqing Oilfield, the biggest oilfield in China with production of 1.2 million barrels per day. In this capacity, Mr Ding managed the oil company as well as the service companies of Daqing Oilfield.

Mr Ding graduated from Chengdu Geology University majoring in geology. He is also Director of LianZhongYisheng Petroleum Exploration Co. Ltd, a Beijing based company.

Mr Philip Fillis - Advisory Panel

MSc, FAusIMM, FIMMM, CEng, MAIG, MMICA

Phil graduated with a B.Sc in geology from the University of London in 1972 and an M.Sc in Mineral Exploration from the University of Leicester in 1975. In over 30 years of global professional experience he has participated in international exploration programmes for base metals, gold, uranium and iron ore in Australasia, South and West Africa, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, China, Russia, Europe, Brazil and Canada. Phil was a staff geologist with major exploration companies including Esso Minerals and US Steel Corporation and has completed numerous assignments for major mining houses and financial institutions, both in Australia and overseas.

His significant geological experience extends from exploration to resource development. This includes extensive skills in regional project assessment, geological mapping from prospect to regional scale and exploration programme design and planning. Specific skills include the development of geological models of mineral deposits and their application to the classification of mineral resources under Australian and overseas mineral resource reporting codes.

Mr David J. Orth - Advisory Panel

BSc, DipGeoSci

Mr. Orth has nearly 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry beginning as an exploration geologist with Amoco International Oil Company from 1979 to 1985 based first in Houston where he dealt with West Africa and the Middle East and later in London handling the North Sea. He joined BHP Petroleum in 1985 and was responsible for exploration and operations in South East Asia and the Middle East as Exploration Manager prior to being seconded to Canada for a year and returned to Melbourne to assume the responsibility for Asian activities concentrating on China new business development. After a brief stint with Triton Energy as their General Manager in China, he established International Petroleum Consultancy in 1996 to handle project management and technical assessments in Australia and the Middle East to include north-eastern Africa. For the past four years he has been an Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer for Carnarvon Petroleum.

Mr Tom Fontaine - Advisory Panel

Mr Fontaine is a reservoir engineer with over 20 years of experience in project evaluation management, development and capital raising. Mr Fontaine has been part owner of petroleum engineering companies Epic Consulting in Canada and Focal Petroleum in Australia and has provided technical services to many companies worldwide.

He is also primarily responsible for the startup and subsequent listing on the Australian Stock Exchange of Bounty Oil & Gas NL in 2002, and Coal Bed Methane Company Pure Energy Resources Pty Ltd in 2007.

Mr Clem Allsworth - Advisory Panel

Clem Allsworth is the principal of Australian Petroleum Landman Pty Ltd, (APL) which provides petroleum exploration companies with a range of practical services which include assistance in the acquisition of petroleum tenement titles, compliance with the conditions to which those titles are subject, joint venture requirements, dealings and transfers affecting petroleum titles, procurement of various contracts for the performance of work required to be carried out in or in relation to petroleum title areas, reporting requirements and liaison with government personnel administering such titles.

In the provision of such services Mr Allsworth draws on over 30 years of knowledge, experience and contacts obtained and developed by, including whilst working for the Woodside group of companies for 18 years. APL has performed work for a variety of Australian and overseas based petroleum exploration companies. Although most of the services performed for these companies were in connection with the registration of dealings against Petroleum Titles, Clem has also provided services relating to Drilling Contracts, Farmin/Farmout Agreements, Joint Operating Agreements, an Oil Offtake Agreement, obtaining suspensions of Permit conditions and the preparation and completion of dealing and transfer documents to enable companies to become registered Permittees and attending to stamp duty requirements.

Fred Kroh - Advisory Panel

Fred was formerly Project Leader of the Geophysical Processing and Data Access Project with Geoscience Australia. Fred's interests are in seismic processing for AVO analysis, seismic and bathymetric data acquisition, processing, management and access. He has co-authored or contributed to a number of articles, abstracts and publications including the following: Kroh, F., and Williamosn, P. E., 2006B "C Preliminary AVO results from the Caswell Sub-basin northwest Australia. Preview, October 2006, 16-18; and Kroh, F., and Williamosn, P. Jim Dirstein - Advisory Panel

Has a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto (Geology and Geophysics). With more than twenty-five years of international experience in the oil industry including the last twelve years as the founder/director of an independent geophysical consulting company, Jim has developed an eclectic set of technical and business skills working in a diverse range of geological and corporate settings. He has a proven track record with both small and large companies identifying, and applying, new and existing technology to improve corporate exploration/exploitation work flows. His broad technical skill-set and project management skills enable his consultancy (Total Depth) to provide a variety of services which include 2D/3D project work for prospect generation/appraisal/development, training, software support and business development to a large and diverse client base internationally in Petroleum and locally with Australian petroleum and minerals (Bowen Basin Permian Coal) companies.
